Sioux Falls police are actively searching for a suspect described as a Hispanic male, standing approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall with wavy dark hair and a thin build. The investigation centers on a 20-year-old male witness who was present in the parking lot of an apartment complex in northwest Sioux Falls when the incident unfolded. According to reports, the suspect is wanted for aggravated assault and a single gunshot fired during a heated argument that escalated from inside the residence to the outdoor parking area. Multiple callers reported hearing gunshots around 2:00 a.m. on Monday, May 25, 2026. When officers arrived at the scene near West Maple Street and North Career Avenue, they interviewed the witness, who stated that several individuals were involved in the confrontation before the suspect produced a handgun and discharged one round. The witness subsequently fled the area. Law enforcement officers successfully located and collected a shell casing from the parking lot for forensic analysis. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the shooting. The Sioux Falls Police Department remains the lead investigating agency and continues to canvass the area for additional witnesses and surveillance footage. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the suspect’s identity or current whereabouts to contact the department immediately. The case remains open and active as detectives work to identify and apprehend the individual responsible for the armed altercation.
