The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Troy W. Rathbone, a 46-year-old man from Riverton, Illinois. Rathbone is currently at large and wanted on an active arrest warrant issued this week. He is charged with Burglary and Criminal Damage to Property in connection with a significant break-in that occurred at Mama Lee’s Sandbar, located on Mechanicsburg Road. The incident took place early on July 9, 2026. According to law enforcement officials, suspects entered the establishment through the front door and caused more than $40,000 worth of damage to the bar’s video gaming terminals and the structure itself. Surveillance footage and data from Flock cameras were instrumental in identifying Rathbone as a suspect in this case. While an accomplice, Phillip J. Smith of Rochester, was arrested in mid-August on similar charges including Burglary, Criminal Damage to Property, and Theft, he was subsequently released from custody under the Pre-Trial Fairness Act. Rathbone faces additional legal troubles unrelated to the bar burglary; he is also wanted for Non-Consensual Dissemination of Private Images and Harassment with an Electronic Device. The Sheriff’s Department emphasizes that Rathbone is still at large and urges anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to come forward. Residents who spot Rathbone are instructed to contact the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department directly at (217) 753-6666. Alternatively, tips can be submitted anonymously to Sangamon and Menard County Crime Stoppers by calling (217) 788-8427. Anonymous tips may also be filed through the Crime Stoppers website or by utilizing the P3 mobile application. Authorities continue to investigate the full extent of the damages and are encouraging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or information that could lead to the apprehension of the wanted suspect.
