The Kansas City Police Department is actively seeking the public's assistance in locating a wanted homicide suspect, identified as 34-year-old DeAiris Poindexter. Poindexter remains at large and is wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Michelle Donato, which occurred on November 25, 2024. According to police reports, authorities were initially dispatched to the 1300 block of West Bluff Drive following a large fight that escalated into a shooting. Upon arrival, officers were informed that two shooting victims had already departed the scene in a private vehicle. Additional units located a vehicle to the east of the incident on Avenida Cesar E Chavez containing two female victims with gunshot wounds. Both women were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Tragically, Michelle Donato succumbed to her injuries, while a second woman survived with serious wounds. Forensic testing played a critical role in the investigation, with DNA evidence recovered from shell casings at the scene linking Poindexter to the crime. Consequently, Poindexter was charged with murder, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and assault. These charges were formally announced in April 2026. Despite the legal proceedings, Poindexter has not been taken into custody and is currently considered at large. The KCPD Homicide Unit is urging anyone with information regarding Poindexter's whereabouts to come forward. Authorities emphasize that the public should not attempt to approach or confront the suspect if spotted. Instead, individuals with tips are instructed to contact the KCPD Homicide Unit directly at 816-234-5043 or utilize the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS. This ongoing manhunt highlights the department's continued efforts to bring justice to the victim's family and ensure public safety by apprehending the suspect responsible for the deadly incident.
