The Muskegon Heights Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Joseph Jones, a 47-year-old man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting. Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Jones on charges of open murder and weapons offenses following the death of JaQuantay Crawford. The incident took place on June 22, 2025, near the intersection of Howell Avenue and Dyson Avenue in Muskegon Heights. Crawford was found with a gunshot wound to the upper body and later died at a local hospital. Although detectives from the Muskegon Heights Police Department and the Michigan State Police identified Jones as a suspect shortly after the shooting, he has remained at large for more than eleven months. Investigators from the U.S. Marshal’s Office have also been involved in the ongoing search. Jones is described as standing 6-foot-3 and weighing approximately 205 pounds. He has a prior criminal record dating back to 1997, including previous convictions for drug-related offenses and resisting arrest, with his most recent release from the Michigan Department of Corrections occurring in 2023.
