Authorities are searching for Daniel Couch, a suspect wanted in connection with a violent machete attack on a public transit vehicle in Seattle. Couch, who has a significant history of legal troubles including 44 arrest warrants over the past 11 years, escaped from Electronic Home Detention (EHD) custody over the weekend. The incident occurred in King County, Washington, where Couch was serving a court-ordered alternative to jail time while awaiting further proceedings. According to the King County Prosecutor’s Office, Couch was discharged from the Sea Mar Turning Point Treatment Center in Seattle’s Central District three days ago. Following his discharge, GPS monitoring data indicated that Couch traveled to a residence in south Seattle while ignoring verbal commands from his monitoring officers to contact authorities. Approximately two hours after leaving the treatment facility, his GPS signal ceased, and he was classified as a walkaway. He has not been seen since that time. The underlying incident that led to his current custody status occurred in July, when Couch attempted to board a King County Metro bus near 4th Avenue South and Jackson Street. After being denied entry by the driver, who recognized him from a prior incident, Couch was captured on video striking the bus with a machete multiple times. He was subsequently charged with malicious mischief and sent to jail. Prosecutors have described Couch as dangerous to the community and have issued an active arrest warrant for his apprehension. Law enforcement agencies, including Seattle Police and King County Prosecutors, are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any information regarding Couch’s whereabouts. Individuals with tips are encouraged to contact local law enforcement immediately to assist in bringing the suspect back into custody.
