The Thornton Police Department is actively searching for 37-year-old Luis Arebalo, who is considered armed and dangerous following a violent confrontation with law enforcement on Sunday night. The incident occurred around 9:33 p.m. in the 12800 block of Ulster Street, where officers had responded to a report of an unwanted person. According to a news release issued by the department on Monday, while officers were speaking with the individual who made the 911 call, Arebalo allegedly fired multiple rounds at the officers, striking one. Another officer returned fire, but as of Monday morning, investigators remained uncertain whether the suspect sustained any injuries. Arebalo fled the scene immediately after the exchange of gunfire and had not been located as of the time of the report. Authorities have released a physical description of the suspect, identifying him as 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing approximately 180 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black short-sleeved shirt and dark-colored pants. The Thornton Police Department has issued a public safety warning, urging residents not to approach or attempt to contact Arebalo under any circumstances due to the extreme danger he poses. Instead, the public is asked to call 911 immediately if they spot him. Investigators are appealing to the community for assistance in locating the suspect. Anyone with information regarding Arebalo's whereabouts or the incident is encouraged to contact the Thornton Police Tip Line directly at (720) 977-5069.
