Blake Lachance, a 21-year-old man from Lewiston, Maine, is currently at large and wanted by law enforcement on multiple felony charges. The charges against Lachance include one count each of aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. Authorities have designated him as potentially armed and dangerous, advising the public not to approach or confront him. The situation escalated on Wednesday morning when Rumford Police responded to reports of gunfire in the area surrounding 209 Waldo Street. Upon arrival, officers determined that individuals believed to be involved in the incident were inside the apartment and were potentially still present. Due to the risk of encountering armed suspects, officers from the Rumford Police Department and the Oxford County Sheriff's Office established a perimeter around the location. The Maine State Police Tactical Team was deployed to assist in securing the area and executing a search warrant, which was authorized by a court later that morning. During the operation, Rumford Public Works crews implemented temporary road closures and traffic detours, while MedCare Ambulance paramedics were staged nearby as a precaution. A shelter-in-place advisory was issued for residents near the intersection of Waldo Street and Maine Avenue. The tactical team entered the apartment shortly before 1:00 p.m. but discovered that the suspects had already fled several hours earlier. The shelter-in-place order was lifted at 1:20 p.m., and roads were reopened. A subsequent search of the apartment yielded additional evidence supporting public reports of armed individuals and drug activity.
