Albemarle County Police Department (ACPD) is currently searching for a suspect believed to be at large following a high-speed pursuit and vehicle crash in Charlottesville, Virginia. The incident began early Sunday morning, October 18, 2026, at approximately 5:37 a.m., when an ACPD officer initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Scottsville Road and Mill Creek Drive. The suspect, described as a Black male with dreadlocks, standing approximately 6 feet tall and weighing 175 pounds, was observed traveling between 85 and 90 mph in a 55 mph zone. Upon being signaled to stop, the driver fled the scene, triggering a brief high-speed chase that lasted less than three minutes before the pursuing officer terminated the pursuit for safety reasons. Shortly after the chase ended, the suspect’s vehicle crashed in the vicinity of the 3200 block of Scottsville Road. The crash was detected by an automated iPhone notification sent to the Charlottesville-UVA-Albemarle Emergency Communications Center, which alerted law enforcement to the location. Responding officers confirmed the wrecked vehicle was the same one involved in the earlier traffic stop. The suspect is believed to have fled the vehicle and is currently at large. Police are searching the area around Scottsville Road and Daniel Morris Lane, where the wreck occurred. The suspect was last seen wearing dark clothing. Authorities have established a significant police presence in the area and are urging the public to remain vigilant. Individuals with information regarding the suspect’s location or the incident are encouraged to contact the ACPD. The investigation is ongoing as officers continue to canvass the crash site and surrounding neighborhoods for clues or witnesses.
