Palatine police are actively searching for Breider Iriarte Campomar, a suspect accused of participating in a bank impersonation scheme that resulted in a $73,000 loss for victim David Lipsky. Campomar, who was previously located in Pennsylvania and extradited to Cook County, was charged with theft by deception, a Class 2 felony. Although a Cook County judge released him under pretrial conditions last week, Campomar failed to appear in court this week, prompting the issuance of a new active search warrant. His current whereabouts are unknown. The scam began when Lipsky received a call from a number appearing to be from Chase Bank, with the caller claiming his account was compromised and instructing him to move funds to a safe account. A second caller, also posing as a bank employee, stated that federal authorities were involved. Following these instructions, Lipsky transferred $73,000, which authorities confirmed was part of the fraudulent scheme. Police have identified two additional suspects, Jose Luis Mateo and Fredduar Escobar Bautista, who also remain at large. Lipsky expressed frustration and anger regarding Campomar's release and subsequent failure to appear, noting that he had initially celebrated when the suspect was located, hoping for restitution. He stated that he needs the money back and for the suspect to be held accountable. Palatine police detectives have dedicated significant resources to the investigation, including coordinating with out-of-state law enforcement to locate Campomar. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the suspect's location to contact the Palatine Police Department at 847-359-9000.
