Republican U.S. Representative Abe Hamadeh has announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of two men suspected of sexually assaulting his political opponent, Bernadette Greene-Placentia. The alleged incident occurred on August 14 near 99th Avenue and Bell Road in Sun City, Arizona. Greene-Placentia, a campaign volunteer and Democratic candidate, reported that she was struck on the head and lost consciousness while repairing campaign signs. Upon waking, she stated she was being sexually assaulted by one man while a second man was present. The two suspects remain at large, and authorities have not yet identified them. Hamadeh, a former prosecutor, emphasized the severity of the crime and urged the public to contact the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office with any tips. The announcement was made on October 20, nearly two weeks after Greene-Placentia publicly described the attack to the Phoenix New Times. The case has drawn attention from political figures across the aisle, including Democratic U.S. Representative Yassamin Ansari, who attended a support event organized by the Democratic Women’s Caucus. Campaign manager Isaiah Lopez highlighted the broader context of violence against women in Arizona, noting that the state has some of the highest rates of domestic and sexual violence in the country. Greene-Placentia did not attend the support event due to the emotional toll of repeatedly recounting the assault. The investigation remains active, with law enforcement seeking public assistance to locate the suspects and bring them to justice.
