Authorities in Ohio are actively searching for Brittany Stroud, a suspect wanted in connection with the death of her 17-month-old daughter. The toddler died last week in Orient, located in Pickaway County, after ingesting fentanyl. The search for Stroud continues nearly a week after a warrant was issued for her arrest. According to charging documents, Stroud is facing serious charges including involuntary manslaughter, child endangerment, and possession of a controlled substance. Her mother, Tammy Stroud, has also been charged with complicity in involuntary manslaughter, child endangerment, and possession of controlled substances. Tammy Stroud pleaded not guilty to the charges and her bond was set at $250,000. Investigators state that Tammy Stroud was at work when she left Brittany Stroud unsupervised with the child. It was during this time that the toddler stopped breathing. Brittany Stroud subsequently called 911 to report that her daughter was not breathing and had not moved or turned her head. An autopsy confirmed the presence of fentanyl in the child's system. Court documents reveal that the child tested positive for fentanyl and cocaine at birth. Franklin County Children Services had been working with the family since the child's birth due to Brittany Stroud's fentanyl addiction. Under a previous court order, Brittany Stroud was restricted from having unsupervised visits with her daughter. Authorities noted that Franklin County Children Services was in the process of attempting to remove the child from Tammy Stroud's home because they observed Brittany Stroud appearing to live there. The child's older siblings are now in the care of Franklin County Children Services. The Pickaway County Sheriff's Office is urging anyone with information regarding Brittany Stroud's whereabouts to contact them immediately. The case has drawn attention to ongoing efforts by children services agencies to keep children safe from drug exposure, with recent programs emphasizing the need to lock up and clean up controlled substances.
