The Federal Bureau of Investigation has officially added 44-year-old Joseph "Troubles" Matos to its Top Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list, offering a $1 million reward for information leading to his arrest. Matos is wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of 19-year-old National Guardsman Chrys Carvajal, which occurred on July 3, 2021, in Chicago, Illinois. Authorities allege that Matos, a member of the Milwaukee Kings street gang, shot Carvajal as the young soldier walked to his car following Independence Day celebrations. Investigators state that the killing was allegedly committed to enhance Matos's standing within the criminal organization, which is accused of narcotics trafficking and violence on Chicago's North Side. Matos has been on the run since May 2024, when a murder warrant was issued. While the FBI acknowledges Matos has ties to Texas and California, agents believe he remains in the United States, with a specific focus on the Chicago area. Matos is described as having distinctive tattoos, including ink stretching from his forearm to his neck and a stomach tattoo reading "MOST WANTED." FBI Chicago Special Agent in Charge Ryan Whalen emphasized the agency's commitment to capturing Matos, stating that justice will find him regardless of his location. The announcement was made alongside members of the Carvajal family, who expressed renewed hope for justice. Jennifer Ramirez, Carvajal's sister, noted that the substantial reward brings hope that someone will come forward. An associate of Matos, Gary Roberson, was previously arrested and is facing separate legal proceedings. The public is urged to contact the FBI with any information regarding Matos's whereabouts.
