Law enforcement agencies across Ohio are conducting an intensive manhunt for 20-year-old Cassen Kelso Conaway, who is wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday night in Highland County. Conaway, a resident of Highland County, is alleged to have shot and killed a 41-year-old man before fleeing the scene. The incident took place around 8:05 p.m. on Thursday in the 13000 block of State Route 72. Deputies, along with Leesburg Police Department officers and emergency medical personnel, responded to the location where they discovered the victim deceased. The Highland County Coroner’s Office was subsequently called to the scene to handle the body, though the victim’s identity has not yet been released to the public. Following the shooting, Conaway fled the area before deputies could apprehend him, and he remained at large as of Friday morning. The search effort has expanded significantly, involving a multi-agency task force. Participating units include K-9 and drone assets from the Highland County Sheriff’s Office, a K-9 unit from the Greenfield Police Department, the Highland County Special Response Team, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers with their aviation unit, and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Personnel from the Highland County Victim Witness Assistance Program also arrived at the scene to provide support to those affected by the tragedy. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Conaway’s whereabouts to contact the Highland County Sheriff’s Office immediately at 937-393-1421. The investigation is ongoing as officers continue to search for the suspect.
