Authorities in Ohio are actively searching for 20-year-old Cassen Kelso Conaway, who is wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred late Thursday night. The incident took place around 8:05 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2026, in the 13000 block of State Route 72 near Leesburg, close to the Clinton County line. Deputies responded to the scene to find a 41-year-old man dead; his identity has not yet been released. Conaway fled the area before law enforcement arrived and remains at large. The Highland County Sheriff’s Office has identified him as armed and dangerous, urging the public not to approach him under any circumstances. The search operation has been extensive, involving multiple agencies including the Highland County Sheriff’s Office, State Highway Patrol aviation units, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and deputies from neighboring Clinton and Fayette counties. K-9 and drone units have been deployed throughout the night and into Friday. The severity of the manhunt has impacted local community events; Friday night’s high school football game between Clermont Northeastern and East Clinton was moved to Clermont Northeastern High School out of caution, as the original venue in Sabina is located approximately six miles from the shooting scene. Sheriff Randy Sanders stated that investigators do not yet know the motive behind the shooting and that the search remains active. The public is asked to contact the Highland County Sheriff’s Office at (937) 393-1421 with any information regarding Conaway’s whereabouts.
