The Clark County Sheriff’s Office in Washington is seeking a man wanted in connection with a burglary incident that occurred on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, near the city of Battle Ground. The suspect, who identified himself to a neighbor as "Derek," is currently at large. According to deputies, the alleged crime began around 1:30 p.m. when the man broke into a shed on a residential property and stole fishing gear while the homeowner was inside the house. The suspect then allegedly kicked in the back door of the home. When the homeowner yelled at him to leave, the suspect fled the scene, dropping several of the stolen items in the process. After escaping the initial residence, the suspect approached a neighbor’s house and rang the doorbell, requesting a ride to Yacolt. The neighbor refused the request but managed to capture video footage of the suspect using a video surveillance camera. Despite being turned down, the suspect was eventually able to secure a ride from another individual. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant. Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact Deputy Stubbs at Damon.CasettaStubbs@clark.wa.gov. When contacting law enforcement, the public should reference Case #26007958. The investigation is ongoing, and the sheriff’s office continues to review the surveillance video and gather additional evidence to locate and arrest the suspect.
