The New York City Police Department is searching for an unidentified young man wanted in connection with a series of grand larcenies targeting senior citizens across Queens. The suspect, described as having a light complexion, shaggy brown hair, and a thin build, is accused of scamming at least four elderly victims out of more than $90,000 in life savings over the past five months. The pattern of crime began on June 2 in Astoria, where the suspect deceived an 80-year-old woman into withdrawing $20,000. He later met the victim near 35th Avenue and 21st Street, took the cash, and fled. Subsequent incidents occurred in Woodside on August 31, involving a 74-year-old man who lost $20,000, and in Kew Gardens on September 2, where a 90-year-old man was conned out of $21,000. The final known incident took place on September 4 in Sunnyside, resulting in a $30,000 loss for a 72-year-old woman. In all cases, the suspect used deception to persuade victims to withdraw funds from their banks and then met them in person to collect the money before fleeing on foot. Police have released surveillance images showing the suspect wearing an oversized white T-shirt with a black heart graphic, denim shorts, white sneakers, and a black backpack. No victims were physically injured during the encounters. The NYPD is offering a reward of up to $3,500 for information leading to the suspect's arrest and indictment. Investigators from the 114th, 108th, and 112th Precincts are coordinating the manhunt. The public is urged to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS or submit tips online or via social media. Tips are strictly confidential. Authorities note a recent uptick in grand larcenies across the affected precincts, with the 108th and 112th Precincts seeing significant increases compared to the same period last year.
