Palatine Police are searching for Breider Iriarte Campomar, a suspect wanted in connection with a $73,000 bank impersonation scam. Campomar failed to appear in court after a Cook County judge released him under pretrial conditions, prompting the issuance of a new warrant. His current location is unknown. The investigation centers on allegations that Campomar participated in a scheme targeting David Lipsky, a grocery store worker. According to reports, the fraud began with a phone call appearing to originate from a Chase Bank number, warning Lipsky that his account was compromised. A subsequent caller, claiming to be a Chase representative, stated that federal authorities were involved and instructed Lipsky to transfer his funds to a secure account. Lipsky complied, transferring $73,000. Although approximately $24,000 was later returned to his account, Lipsky expressed frustration and anger upon learning of Campomar's release, stating he doubted he would see justice or receive full restitution. Campomar was previously located in Pennsylvania in early October and extradited to Cook County, Illinois, where he faced charges of theft by deception, a Class 2 felony. In addition to Campomar, two other suspects, Jose Luis Mateo and Fredduar Escobar Bautista, remain at large. Palatine Police have dedicated significant resources to the case, collaborating with out-of-state law enforcement to locate the fugitives. Detectives are urging anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Campomar or the other suspects to contact the Palatine Police Department at 847-359-9000. The case highlights the ongoing threat of sophisticated impersonation scams targeting financial institutions and consumers.
