Authorities in Cascade County, Montana, have issued a warrant for the arrest of Nathan Ross Harlan, who is currently at large. Harlan faces four misdemeanor charges of accountability for deceptive election practices. The charges stem from an investigation into the alleged forging of signatures on petitions intended to qualify two independent candidates for the fall ballot. The candidates involved are Michael Eisenhauer, running for U.S. House in the Eastern Congressional District, and Seth Bodnar, running for Montana’s open U.S. Senate seat. Cascade County Attorney Josh Racki confirmed that investigators working on the case over several months identified voters who claimed they had not signed the petitions in question. Approximately 800 signatures were called into question during the probe, and none were counted toward the qualification totals for either candidate. The campaigns themselves have not been accused of wrongdoing. Harlan was associated with Sun Belt Strategies, a firm that subcontracted signature gathering for Ballot Access Marketing. Court documents indicate Harlan was based in Oxford, Mississippi, but purchased a Montana voter file in March. Investigators noted suspicious handwriting and signatures that did not match voter records, including instances where voters’ relatives or individuals living outside Montana were listed. Aliases such as Steven Ball and Manuel Diaz were also identified in the suspicious packets. Throughout July and August, investigators reviewed the packets and contacted individuals, with many confirming they did not sign. While Democratic congressional candidate Brian Miller initially filed a lawsuit to disqualify signatures in the same batch, he later dropped the case. The Cascade County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for any information regarding Harlan’s location, noting that addresses associated with him have been found in nine southern states. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the sheriff’s office immediately.
