Authorities are searching for 38-year-old Curtis Heisler, a known fugitive gang member originally from Arizona, who remains at large after a high-speed police pursuit turned into a manhunt. Heisler is considered armed and dangerous and is wanted for fleeing law enforcement and making explicit threats to engage officers with a firearm. The incident began early Saturday morning at approximately 2:40 a.m. when a Utah Highway Patrol trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Interstate 15 in Juab County near milepost 220. Heisler fled at speeds reaching 100 miles per hour, prompting a multi-agency pursuit. During the chase, the suspect placed a 911 call and threatened to use a weapon against responding officers. A Juab County deputy eventually deployed tire spikes near milepost 236 in Nephi, bringing the vehicle to a halt after it crashed into a center median. Heisler escaped on foot, leading the Juab County Sheriff’s Office to activate a shelter-in-place order for the surrounding area. The directive was lifted around 7:25 a.m. Saturday after the immediate threat was deemed contained, though the search for the suspect continues. The Utah Department of Public Safety, Juab County Sheriff’s Office, and Nephi City Police Department are jointly managing the investigation. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information regarding Heisler’s whereabouts to contact authorities immediately by dialing 911.
