Nancy Guthrie, an 84-year-old woman and the mother of Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, remains missing nearly nine months after her abduction from her home in Tucson, Arizona. The incident occurred on the evening of January 31, with her family reporting her missing on February 1. Although investigators have released photos of a masked suspect on her front porch and published alleged ransom notes, no individual has been named or arrested in connection with the crime. Cold case expert Aaron Benzick, a police detective from Texas, recently appeared on NewsNation’s Brian Entin Investigates to suggest applying cold case strategies to the ongoing investigation. Benzick emphasized the need to distinguish between verifiable facts and assumptions, focusing on the timeline leading up to the abduction and organizing the thousands of tips and pieces of physical and digital evidence already collected. He noted that while the case may feel cold to the public due to the lack of progress, law enforcement agencies are not always equipped to handle such large volumes of data immediately. Benzick advised investigators to take a step back, bring in different perspectives, and rigorously account for all open-ended leads. The FBI and sheriff’s detectives have formed a dedicated task force that works on the case daily. Savannah Guthrie has offered a $1 million reward in addition to other reward money to aid in the search. The investigating agencies include the local sheriff’s department and the FBI. The public is encouraged to contact authorities with any information regarding Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts or the identity of the suspect.
