Authorities in Indiana and Illinois are actively searching for 54-year-old Paul D. Harnishfeger Sr., a resident of Stewartsville, Indiana, who is wanted in connection with the murder of his wife, Chasity Harnishfeger. Harnishfeger is charged with first-degree murder following the discovery of his wife’s body at their Posey County residence on Sunday, October 25, 2026. Law enforcement officers were initially dispatched to conduct a welfare check, which led to the tragic discovery. Investigators have determined that Harnishfeger may have connections to residents in Carmi, Illinois, specifically within White County. Robyn Clevenger, a Carmi resident, reported to authorities that Harnishfeger had recently harassed her and threatened her boyfriend at his workplace. The couple knew Harnishfeger through their involvement in area demolition derbies. According to reports, Chasity Harnishfeger had previously discussed personal struggles with alcoholism and addiction with Clevenger’s boyfriend, leading Harnishfeger to believe an affair was taking place. Clevenger expressed significant concern for her safety and temporarily left Carmi due to the alleged threats. A judge has set bond at $1 million for Harnishfeger, who is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities strongly warn the public not to approach or attempt to apprehend him. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact the Posey County Sheriff’s Department at 812-838-1320. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to locate the suspect.
