Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, widely known as 'El Chapito' and the eldest son of convicted drug lord Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, remains at large and is currently wanted by US authorities. He is a prominent figure in the Sinaloa Cartel's 'Los Chapitos' faction. US prosecutors have accused him of overseeing the trafficking of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and fentanyl, as well as coordinating shipments of precursor chemicals. In April 2026, reports indicated that US prosecutors claimed Iván and his brother Jesús Alfredo supported Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha Moya’s 2021 election campaign in exchange for protection. The US State Department is offering a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to his capture. Despite reports of possible surrender negotiations and an attempted capture operation in 2026, his whereabouts remain unknown. The last known location associated with his family's operations and recent cartel conflicts is Sinaloa, Mexico, with significant legal proceedings occurring in the United States, including New Mexico where his brother Joaquín was arrested. Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar is also facing federal charges and is on the DEA’s Most Wanted list, with a $10 million reward offered for his capture. In contrast, two of Iván's brothers have been apprehended. Ovidio Guzmán López pleaded guilty in July 2025 to federal drug trafficking charges and is awaiting sentencing in April 2027. Joaquín Guzmán López pleaded guilty in December 2025 to drug trafficking and engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise after being arrested in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, in July 2024. He faces a minimum sentence of 10 years. The Sinaloa Cartel is currently embroiled in a violent factional conflict with the faction led by Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada, known as 'Los Mayos,' which has intensified since El Mayo's arrest in July 2024. The investigating agencies include the US Department of Justice, the DEA, and ICE. The public is urged to contact local law enforcement or the FBI tip line with any information regarding the whereabouts of Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar.
