Authorities on Hawai’i Island are actively searching for 36-year-old Jacob “Jake” Daniel Baker, who is wanted in connection with three separate homicides that occurred within a 48-hour window. Police Chief Reed Mahuna confirmed that all three deaths, which took place in the Puna district, are believed to be connected to a single suspect. The first victim, a 69-year-old man, was discovered Monday evening partially submerged in a cement pond at a residential property. Approximately 400 to 500 feet away, officers responded Tuesday afternoon to find a 79-year-old man deceased from apparent blunt force trauma. Later that same evening, a third victim, another 69-year-old man, was found dead roughly 19 miles from the initial crime scenes. Investigators have stated that no firearms were used in any of the incidents, but Baker should be considered armed and extremely dangerous. Law enforcement has not yet identified a motive, nor have they established a known connection between the victims beyond the proximity of the first two residences. Mahuna emphasized that bringing the suspect into custody without further harm is the department’s top priority, noting that significant personnel and resources have been mobilized to address the situation. The Hawai’i Island Police Department is urging the public to exercise extreme caution. Residents are advised not to approach Baker under any circumstances and to immediately dial 911 if he is spotted. Authorities continue to review evidence and canvass the area as the manhunt remains ongoing.
