San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office officials are urgently seeking the public’s assistance in locating three men who remain at large and are wanted in connection with the kidnapping and murder of 57-year-old Avtar Singh. The victims, a father of triplets who worked as a cook at a local Sikh temple, was abducted on February 17 near the gurdwara where he lived and worked. His body was discovered three days later in Lake Berryessa in Napa County. Authorities believe the killing was likely a case of mistaken identity, as Singh had no known enemies and lived a humble life volunteering at the temple. The suspects are identified as Alberto Alencastro, 25; Alfonso Segura, 20; and Barnabe Segura, 22. All three men have ties to Mexico, and investigators suspect they may have fled the country following the indictment by a grand jury on charges of murder with special circumstances and kidnapping. Law enforcement utilized Flock cameras to track a white crossover-style SUV registered to Vallejo, which was ultimately located and seized, but the suspects themselves were never apprehended. The actual target of the suspects' initial hunt, a man who had stolen a cargo trailer, was located in Canada and has admitted to the theft. In the wake of this tragedy, the Sikh community has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Sheriff Patrick Withrow described Singh as a good person who cooked for everyone at the temple and took care of maintenance tasks. Community member Rasleen Kaur noted Singh’s loving nature and unwavering faith. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information to contact them at 209-468-5087.
