Ruja Ignatova, the 43-year-old co-founder of the OneCoin cryptocurrency scheme, remains at large and is currently listed on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. Ignatova, a Bulgarian national, disappeared in October 2017 while traveling on a flight from Sofia, Bulgaria, to Athens, Greece, and her current whereabouts are unknown. She is wanted on federal charges including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and securities fraud. The OneCoin operation, launched in 2014, was described by U.S. prosecutors as one of the largest fraud schemes ever perpetrated, having collected over $4 billion from approximately 3.5 million investors worldwide. The scheme operated without a functional blockchain, with token values controlled internally by company leadership. While co-founder Karl Sebastian Greenwood was sentenced to 20 years in prison in September 2023, Ignatova remains a primary fugitive. The U.S. Department of Justice recently concluded its victim compensation process, which opened in April 2026 and closed on June 30, 2026, distributing more than $40 million in forfeited assets. The FBI continues to offer a reward for information leading to Ignatova’s arrest. The investigation is coordinated by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, with the FBI’s New York field office playing a central role in the ongoing manhunt. International agencies, including Europol, are also involved in the search for Ignatova, who has been linked to various locations but has not been located since her disappearance over nine years ago.
