Police are currently conducting an active manhunt for an unidentified suspect wanted in connection with a series of catalytic converter thefts across the north and west suburbs of Chicago. The pursuit began around 3 a.m. Wednesday when officers from the Villa Park Police Department and assisting agencies observed suspects committing the thefts. Upon attempting to apprehend the individuals, the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle. Law enforcement deployed tire deflation devices, disabling two front tires, but the suspects continued driving on their rims from Villa Park into Elmhurst. When the vehicle became inoperable, the suspects abandoned it and fled on foot. While a second suspect was quickly taken into custody, the primary suspect evaded capture and ran into a residential neighborhood near St. Charles and Fair Avenue in Elmhurst. As of mid-morning Wednesday, the suspect remained at large, and officials noted he may have left the immediate Elmhurst area. The Villa Park Police Department, alongside the Elmhurst and Addison police departments, has established a perimeter and is conducting a coordinated search. Authorities have not released specific physical descriptions or identifying details of the at-large suspect.
