Hammond police are actively searching for two to three armed suspects following a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 50-year-old Patricia Shepard. The incident occurred early Thursday morning around 1:15 a.m. at a Chevron gas station located on Highway 190 near Westin Oak Drive in Hammond, Louisiana. According to authorities, Shepard was seated inside a parked gray sedan when a white 2008 Honda Civic pulled alongside. Two individuals exited the white vehicle and discharged between 70 and 80 rounds into the gray car. Shepard was struck multiple times and died at the scene. Investigators state that the suspects were allegedly stalking the vehicle and intended to target a different individual who had already exited the car, making Shepard an innocent victim caught in the crossfire. The suspects fled westbound toward Interstate 55. The getaway vehicle was reported stolen during a carjacking in McComb, Mississippi, on Tuesday and is missing its front passenger window, which was shattered during the exchange of gunfire. Police emphasize that the suspects remain at large and are considered armed and dangerous. Detectives are currently following several leads and believe they have identified potential motives, though specific details have not been released.
