Authorities are searching for a white male suspect wanted in connection with a bank robbery that took place Thursday afternoon in Belle, West Virginia. Investigators state the individual entered Whitesville State Bank on East DuPont Avenue around 3:50 p.m. and handed a teller a note demanding money. During the exchange, the suspect repeatedly reached toward his pockets, leading deputies to believe he may have been armed. The teller complied and handed over an undisclosed amount of cash before the suspect fled on foot toward the river. He is described as standing at least six feet tall with long hair, a red or brown beard, and glasses. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a blue sun hat, a black long-sleeve shirt, black pants, and white tennis shoes, and law enforcement officials note he may have been wearing a disguise. In response to the crime, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office mobilized West Virginia State Police helicopter crews and a K-9 unit to conduct an extensive ground and aerial search of the immediate area, but the suspect has not yet been located.
