Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man in San Diego, California. The victim, whose identity has not been publicly released, was struck by gunfire following a physical altercation at the Union Grantville apartment complex located in the 4500 block of Alvarado Canyon Road. Responding officers initially discovered evidence of a shooting at the apartment complex but did not locate the victim there. Shortly thereafter, a separate report of a single-vehicle collision in the 6900 block of Mission Gorge Road led detectives to the young man, who was found in the backseat of a car suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The uninjured driver stated he was transporting the victim to a hospital when the crash occurred. Despite rapid transport to a local trauma center, the 19-year-old succumbed to his injuries. The San Diego Police Department Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation and is actively processing the scene, interviewing witnesses, and working to reconstruct the events that led to the fatal shooting. Initial reports indicate the violence erupted from a physical confrontation prior to the discharge of a firearm. Police have not yet released any information regarding the suspect, who remains at large.
