Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar has issued a public appeal for assistance in locating John Gregory Brown, a 43-year-old man wanted in connection with the death of Crystal Proctor. Investigators believe Brown is Proctor’s husband, though the nature of their marriage remains unclear. Proctor’s decomposing body was discovered inside a white van at an apartment complex located in the 8800 block of Cinnamon Creek in San Antonio. The body was found after Proctor had been reported missing, with authorities estimating she disappeared around May 2, 2026, or possibly earlier. Sheriff Salazar noted that the medical examiner has not yet ruled the death a homicide; consequently, Brown has not been charged with murder. Instead, he is wanted on a second-degree felony charge of tampering or fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair a human corpse. Investigators allege that Brown took active steps to impede the investigation, including making efforts to disguise his location and leaving his phone behind at the residence. Authorities recovered clothing items believed to have been used in this disguise. While Brown had previously communicated with Proctor’s family, urging them to report her missing only after they threatened to do so themselves, he subsequently disappeared. Sheriff Salazar described the suspect as potentially dangerous and desperate, stating that Brown has gone completely dark and is believed to have left the state of Texas. Investigators suspect he may be on the East Coast, possibly hiding with family or friends. The children involved in the relationship are currently safe and in the care of local family members. The public is urged not to approach Brown but to contact the Bexar County Sheriff's Office with any information at 210-335-6111.
