Austin police are investigating the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Jose Salgado-Amador, which occurred on the night of June 15, 2026. The incident took place around 10:47 p.m. in the AutoZone parking lot located at 2237 East Riverside Drive. According to the Austin Police Department, Salgado-Amador was working as a mechanic in the lot when a suspect approached him and demanded property. The suspect then shot Salgado-Amador and fled the scene in a light-colored sedan. Despite life-saving measures and transport to a local hospital by ATCEMS, Salgado-Amador died from his injuries at 11:56 p.m. The victim's death is being classified as the city's 27th homicide of 2026. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male between the ages of 15 and 20 years old. At the time of the incident, he was last seen wearing a gray hoodie. Detectives are actively seeking information from the public regarding the suspect's identity and whereabouts. Authorities are urging anyone who was in the area on Monday night or who has knowledge of the incident to come forward. Individuals with photos, videos, or other potential evidence are asked to share them with the Austin Police Department.
