Authorities in Texas have launched an active manhunt for 21-year-old Tydrick Davis, a capital murder suspect who was mistakenly released from custody. Davis is wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of 39-year-old Ebonie Gilbert, which occurred on September 26, 2024, outside her home on Bennett Street in Beaumont. According to investigators, Ring camera video captures Gilbert interrupting suspects who were burglarizing her vehicle; she was shot and killed during the confrontation. Her body was discovered the following day by her mother. Davis is currently awaiting trial alongside two co-defendants for this capital murder charge. The release occurred after Davis was transferred to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) on November 4, 2025, to serve a one-year and nine-month sentence for theft from a person. TDCJ Director of Communications Amanda Hernandez confirmed that Davis was released from the Larry Gist State Jail on March 30, 2026. The department is investigating the error, stating that pre-release checks showed no active warrants or detainers for Davis at that time. However, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office maintains that Davis should have been returned to Jefferson County to await trial on the capital murder charges. The Jefferson County District Attorney's Office is aware of the situation. Authorities are urging the public to assist in locating Davis.
