The incident occurred on Tuesday night, June 16, 2026, when troopers initiated a traffic stop around 9 p.m. following a Bureau of Legal Operations alert for an armed bank robbery suspect wanted out of Wilson County. During the stop, the suspect's vehicle crashed into a guard rail on Highway 22 and Interstate 40. Treece abandoned the vehicle and ran into the nearby woods. A helicopter was observed circling the area near Parkers Crossroads just before 10:30 p.m. as the search operation intensified. Investigators have stated that there is currently no indication that Treece is armed or has the ability to communicate with others.
