Bayonne Police have identified 24-year-old Tomani Johnston as the suspect in an armed robbery at a local jewelry store and have issued an arrest warrant for his apprehension. The incident occurred on June 18 at Jewelry by Peter, located at 180 Broadway in Bayonne. According to the Bayonne Police Department, Johnston entered the store wearing a surgical mask and brandished what appeared to be a black handgun. He demanded $10,000 from employees before moving behind the sales counter, where he stole multiple pieces of jewelry valued at approximately $60,000. After fleeing the scene, Johnston reportedly used a rideshare service to travel to Jersey City. Investigators recovered clothing, a surgical mask, and various items of stolen property near the business. Working in conjunction with the Jersey City Police Department and New Jersey State Police, detectives tracked Johnston to a residence on Bayview Avenue in Jersey City. Johnston is currently charged with robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child. Police are actively seeking information regarding his current whereabouts and urge the public to contact the Bayonne Police Department with any tips.
