David Vasquez, a suspect aged between 17 and 19, remains at large and is wanted by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) on a murder charge. The charges stem from a deadly shooting that occurred on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at a Five Below retail store located near the intersection of Rainbow and Lake Mead boulevards in Las Vegas, Nevada. The victim, Brandan Lucas, was an employee at the store at the time of the incident. According to the arrest warrant, Lucas was confronted by Vasquez, leading to a physical altercation. Surveillance video reviewed by detectives shows the two men fighting on the ground before Vasquez pointed a firearm at Lucas, who then ran toward the rear of the store. Vasquez subsequently exited the front of the store. Lucas was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy revealed he was shot three times. Authorities state the motive was related to text messages Lucas had sent to Vasquez’s girlfriend. The girlfriend reported that Lucas had sent her flirtatious messages, which she shared with Vasquez, causing him to become upset. On the day of the shooting, she received an app notification indicating Vasquez was leaving his home and texted him to avoid doing anything stupid, but he did not respond. The warrant for Vasquez was obtained by the LVMPD on June 18, 2026. As of Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Vasquez has not been apprehended. The public is urged to contact the LVMPD with any information regarding his whereabouts.
