Houston police have identified 46-year-old Michael D. Franklin as the suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of his dating partner, 44-year-old Ladana Murrell. The incident occurred on Friday night, June 19, 2026, at the New Hope Housing complex located at 6015 Dale Carnegie Lane near Sharpstown. According to the Houston Police Department, patrol officers responded to the scene around 7:50 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered Murrell suffering from a gunshot wound at the entrance doorway of an apartment. Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene but were unable to save her, and she was pronounced dead. Investigators stated that a witness reported seeing Murrell and Franklin engaged in a physical altercation that escalated into the shooting. Franklin fled the scene immediately following the incident. Authorities have charged Franklin with murder and are actively searching for him. He remains at large.
