Clovis Police are actively searching for Tony Hamilton-Evans, 26, who is charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence following a fatal shooting on Main Street early Saturday morning. The victim, identified as 22-year-old Eleno Cristobal Vincente Gallegos, was shot multiple times shortly after midnight in an area near 11th and Main streets. According to an arrest affidavit, the incident began as a physical altercation involving Gallegos and Zyeir Williams, who is being sought for questioning but is not currently charged. Witnesses and security video indicate that Gallegos and Williams were fighting before Gallegos broke away and was chased by Williams and others. The altercation escalated when Hamilton-Evans, described by witnesses as wearing a durag, allegedly struck Gallegos and then fired a weapon, resulting in Gallegos' death at Plains Regional Medical Center. Investigators believe the shooting may be connected to an unsolved 2020 homicide involving the death of Williams’ mother, Tchicaya Williams, in a drive-by shooting. No arrests have been made in that five-year-old case. Deputy Police Chief Steven Wright described the event as a fistfight that turned into a shooting, noting that a large crowd, many of whom were teenagers, was present in the area. Police are urging the public to provide information regarding the whereabouts of Hamilton-Evans or Williams.
